American Horse Council. Promotes and protects the equine industry in Congress and federal regulatory agencies; unifies the equine industry by providing information on regulations and pending legislation; provides a forum for member organizations and individuals; and supports the equine industry's important role in the economy. www.horsecouncil.org

Tennessee Horse Council. A statewide coalition of horse people and groups unifying the equine industry in Tennessee. A volunteer, non-profit organization representing all breeds and equine disciplines, and affiliated with the American Horse Council. www.tnhorsecouncil.com

Animal Welfare Institute. AWI's goal is to "reduce the sum total of pain and fear inflicted on animals by humans." This non-profit charitable organization has been working since 1951 to keep all animals free from abuse at human hands. www.awionline.org/membership/index.htm

Society for Animal Protective Legislation. A division of the Animal Welfare Institute. SAPL has worked toward the passage of 15 federal laws to protect animals since its founding in 1955. American Horse Defense Fund. Its mission is to "facilitate the protection, conservation, and humane treatment of members of all Equid species. AHDF works to address inhumane treatment of horses, ponies, donkeys, mules and burros, both wild and domesticated through education, advocacy and litigation when necessary in the state, federal and international arenas." www.ahdf.org

International Fund for Horses. The IFH exists to "promote and safeguard the health, safety and welfare of all equines worldwide, whether captive or in the wild, by influencing protective legislation and encouraging the enforcement of existing laws." www.fund4horses.org
